Imagine being guided by five extraordinary women: Caterina, Daniela, Eliana, Martina, and Vittoria. These tour guides and experts in museum education have dedicated over twenty years to the enhancement of Sardinia's cultural heritage through their company, Sa Rundine. Prepare to embark on a unique journey through time with them, exploring the archaeological and paleobotanical wonders of Anglona.
Sa Rundine Manages the MAP Archaeological and Paleobotanical Museum in Perfugas. Inaugurated in 1988, this museum collects precious testimonies that span millions of years of history. Its five sections will lead you through fascinating eras, each with its own stories to tell.
Paleobotanical Section. Explore the plant fossils from the Petrified Forests of Anglona. These formations date back 30-15 million years, a time when volcanic activity transformed forests into magnificent fossilized specimens.
Paleolithic Section. Admire the stone artifacts, including scrapers and denticulates, dating back to the Lower Paleolithic (450,000-120,000 years ago). Discover how our ancient ancestors used flint to create essential survival tools.
Neolithic and Eneolithic Section. This section hosts ceramics and stone objects, including the evocative statuette of the Mother Goddess with Child from the Middle Neolithic (4,000-3,500 BC). Discover the refined Ozieri Culture (3,500-2,700 BC) through examples of finely decorated and painted ceramics.
Nuragic Section. Immerse yourself in the material culture of the Nuragic age through pottery, daggers, fibulae, and bronze bracelets. The architecture of this period is represented by a magnificent Sacred Well in white limestone, numerous nuraghi, and Giants' Tombs.
Classical and Medieval Section. Explore artifacts that testify to the intense trade relations with Phoenician-Punic and Roman populations. The medieval period is represented by splendid majolica from the Churches of Chiaramonti, Martis, and Perfugas.
With the guidance of Sa Rundine professionals, you can visit the Sacred Well of Predio Canopoli, located in the historic center of Perfugas, near the Parish Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli. Dating back to the Final Bronze Age (1,200-900 bC), this complex includes residential and sacred environments spanning the Nuragic and Roman eras. The other marvel visitable with the staff of Sa Rundine is the Retablo of San Giorgio. This sixteenth-century work, approximately 8 meters high and 6 meters wide, is composed of 52 separable panels in Gothic-Aragonese style, decorated with gold leaf. Although the author remains unknown, he is conventionally called the "Master of Perfugas."
